about

This 1920s song is from the pen of Harry Warren, composer of such pop classics as "Lullaby of Broadway," "Jeepers Creepers," and "Chattanooga Choo Choo." Michael Cooney tells us that it was he who, after hearing it on a 78 recording decided that the three separate sections of the song should be superimposed. He taught it that way to California performers Genny Haley and Larry Hanks for a Fox Hollow folk festival appearance. Genny later made it a folkie standard with the Any Old Time String Band. Our arrangement is based on theirs, with some chord changes taken from Ann's German edition (D) of the sheet music.
